Why SOON WATER KYSTLAG Exists
The Norwegian coastline is not simply a geographical feature — it is a centuries-old tapestry of human endeavor, craftsmanship, seafaring courage, and community cooperation.
As modern life moves forward, the traditional knowledge of boatbuilding, sailmaking, navigation, ropework, and coastal ecology risks fading into obscurity. SOON WATER KYSTLAG was created to ensure that this invaluable heritage remains vibrant, active, and accessible right here in Son.

A Thriving Coastal Hub in Son
Our vision is for Son Kystkultursenter to be recognized as a leading grassroots center for coastal culture in the Oslofjord — where anyone can touch a historic hull, smell pine tar and sea salt, and experience the timeless bond between Norwegians and the ocean.
We work in close collaboration with the Norwegian Kystlag federation, local cultural bodies, and community partners across Vestby municipality.
