Spring Wooden Boat Launch & Blessing of the Fleet

Location: Son Kystkultursenter Docks, 1555 Son Admission: Free & Open to All

Celebrate the start of the boating season as our restored wooden vessels are winched into the crystal waters of Son harbor. Includes traditional boat christenings, brass band music, maritime coffee and waffles, and open tours of our workshop.

Annual Son Coastal Heritage Festival & Regatta

Location: Son Harbor Waterfront & Storgata Admission: Free

A two-day celebration of Norwegian seafaring culture. Over fifty historic wooden boats gather in Son harbor for a friendly gaff-rig regatta, ropework competitions, maritime craft demonstrations, fresh seafood stalls, and evening concerts by the quay.

Hands-on Workshop: Traditional Caulking & Timber Care

Location: Son Kystkultursenter Workshop Admission: Free for Volunteers

Learn the ancient skill of hull caulking using oakum, cotton, and pitch. Master boatwrights guide participants step-by-step in sealing wooden hulls and preparing timber surfaces for autumn conditions. All tools provided.

Autumn Maritime Lore: Stories of the Dutch Timber Fleet

Location: Kystkultur Hall, Son Admission: Free (Donations Welcome)

An evening of illustrated historical storytelling exploring the Dutch trade routes of the 1600s, local shipwrecks in the Vestby archipelago, and the daily lives of Son's historic coastal families. Warm cider and refreshments served.
